Benjamin Moore has recently released their color forecast for 2014. They are calling these new colors, "The New Neutral Palette." This color palette was influenced by the home furnishing industry... textiles, carpets, wallpapers, and also color schemes that emerge in landscape design, the auto industry, fashion, and graphics. It includes 23 colors that work well together. Here is a photo of "The New Neutral Palette" by Benjamin Moore:
Benjamin Moore forecasts a shift to pastel colors, a move away from the recent bold colors we have seen a lot of in 2013. The shift moves us towards tints of blues, greens lavenders and pinks, colors that bring happiness into a room and feel light and airy. Since tomorrow is Halloween, we decided to give you a little history of Halloween and show you a few of our favorite Halloween Pins. "Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced "sah-win"). The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. Samhain was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare for winter. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops.
The festival would frequently involve bonfires. It is believed that the fires attracted insects to the area which attracted bats to the area. These are additional attributes of the history of Halloween. Masks and costumes were worn in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or appease them." (halloweenhistory.org)
Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom as well as of Australia and New Zealand.

Check out this dual-fuel range from Sub-Zero & Wolf in the Scottsdale Showroom! Photography by Rick Young 2013.
"Use dual convection for virtually any baking, roasting, or broiling you do. You’ll see (and taste) levels of consistency and guesswork-free precision you never knew were possible. That’s because of an innovative technology, exclusive to Wolf, that uses two fans and multiple heating elements to control heat and airflow more precisely and produce more uniform temperature without the hot and cool spots common with less sophisticated single convection systems. Bake three racks of cookies without even having to rotate the trays." Sub-Zero & Wolf
We completed building this home last Summer 2013 and wanted to show you the final pictures, they turned out beautiful! This home is located in the Eaglepointe Estates in North Salt Lake, Utah.

Tuesday Trend. Today we bring you the Fall/Winter 2013 color forecast in home design trends. GRAY: Gray is the timeless classic. Use shades of gray in combination with whites and beige and add a lot of texture so that the space doesn’t look boring.
STRIKING BLUE: Use it in combination with white to achieve a relaxed and airy feeling. Balance it with accessories coloured in hues from the opposite side of the color wheel – oranges, reds and even yellows.
Nature-Inspired Chestnut: Nature-inspired colors like chestnut will add depth to interiors this autumn. Soft, sophisticated and rustic — the color Chestnut grounds and comforts us.
GREEN: Pantone named Emerald the Color of the Year for 2013, but we're seeing all shades of greens and expect more in the future, from bright spring greens to lots of different blue-greens and teal.

Utah's housing recovery continues to gain momentum in 2013. According to Dave Frederickson, President of the Sale Lake Board of Realtors, "strong consumer confidence in Salt Lake's job market is directly benefiting the housing sector. Limited supply is driving home buyers to BUILD new homes or look at multifamily options."
"Prices of homes in the Salt Lake area in February continued to show gains as demand for housing remained strong," according to the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. Since April 2012, home prices in the Salt Lake area have risen every month year-over-year. The median home price in Salt Lake County in February increased 20% from $175,000 to $210,000.
Utah's real estate recovery gained momentum in 2012. According to Jim Wood, Director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, some of the most notable features of the 2012 market include:
*A 15% increase in homes sales
*Nearly 2.7 billion in home sales value; $500 million more than 2011
*A 6% increase in the median sales price of a home; $199,000 in 2011 to $211,000 in 2012
*The lowest inventory of foreclosure filings in four years; a decline of 47% from the peak quarter
*Housing affordability at near record levels, 80% of homes sold in 2012 were affordable to the median income family
*An average mortgage rate of 3.66%; the lowest rate in 60 years.
Utah has had 30 consecutive months of job growth and ranks fifth among all states in relative job growth. In the past year all of Salt Lake County's 15 cities have seen an increase in existing home sales. In 2013 Salt Lake County's real estate recovery will gain momentum. Strong job growth and low interest rates will give a boost to both buyer confidence and housing affordability.
